If you're interested, I've thought of a legacy project for your troop that would really assist us in our future plans for developed recreation opportunities in the high country. We want to re-engineer Buckhorn Station Trailhead, converting it to a Picnic Area. Below is a copy from the list: Buckhorn Station PA- Convert Trailhead to Picnic Area Bulletin board- install 4x4 panel board near SST Fuel hazard reduction- as needed Gates- Remove entrance/exit gate Install new gate 100’ north along interior road near SST Parking Spurs- West side- define parking area for 5 sites with local stone materials East side- define parking spur for ADA picnic site and SST accessibility. Picnic tables/sites- 6x8’ recyclable tables, 1 ADA accessible Install 5x8’ picnic tables on 10’ pads, west of parking area. Install 1x12’ ADA accessible table, east of parking area near SST. Signage- install family sign w/ rock pedestal west side of entrance Toilet structures- FY02 SST Repaint interior with Peaceful White. Trail signage- install routed sign directing hikers to Buckhorn CG/Burkhart TH Trash receptacle- relocate bearsaver to SST Vehicle barriers/traffic stops- Install local stone materials (granite) along east and west side of interior road, parking area If you're not interested in this project, no problem. You may certainly pick another project from the list. As you look the list over you'll notice that I've expanded it to include developed recreation sites along the Angeles Forest Hwy and lower Big Tujunga Road. Your help would be welcome not just exclusive to the high country, but the entire District. Currently the snow level is @ 6000', so my time frame for project work in the high country is whenever the snow/ice melts and it is safe for working conditions. Send me an email when you're troop knows what they would like to accomplish and by when. Thanks, Mike Smith Recreation Technician R5, Angeles NF, Los Angeles River RD 12371 N.
