Sailing Outing

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the scouts of Troop 14 had an outing out on the bay. Sailing sabots and having fun on the beach, the scouts were completing the practical part of the sailing meritbadge. The sailing required the scouts to capsize and right their boat, go out on partner or solo sail and learn to navigate.

Come join the troop 14 Family for our 2nd Annual Family picnic. Bring your family, your favorite snack to share and your park toys (sand toys, bikes, kites) etc. We will be playing free-for-all soccer friendly for all ages. Join us in some fun and exciting games and win cool troop 14 gear and scouting equipment.

Ted Nye awarded District Scoutmaster of the Year

A big congratulations to our very own scoutmaster Ted who was the recipient of the Los Fieros District Scoutmaster of the Year for the 2007 year. This is a well earned honor for Ted's unending dedication, patience and talent he brings to the troop and to BSA. We all at troop 14 certainly recognize and appreciate his contributions and look forward to even more great outings and education. THANKS TED!!!

Davids eagle scout project will be held on 12-16, a sunday.

Holiday ribbon project!

The holiday ribbon project will be held on 12-8-07, the saturday of the week. We encourage scouts to attend for service hours.

Troop Committee meeting Notes

The meeting was attended by Brian M, Jim T, Ted, Ron L, Richard D, Ken L, me and select parents.

Ted reviewed the program plan through July 2008 which includes an outdoor campout every month including Joshua Tree, Will J Reid Advancement Camp, CDedar Glen backpack trip, Santa Fe Dam Camporee, Kern River Rafting, Yosemite backpack trip, and Tahquitz summer camp.

Ted reviewed Eagle COH plans for Ian, Dieter and Kye and identified any loose ends for task assignments

Adult Leadership - Ken LeBlanc was selected by uninamous vote to transition the troop finance responsibilities. Ted will review and submit our charter renewal form. Ted recommended that we identify 4-5 assistant scoutmaster positions to be filled with some of the new parents.

Rechartering - Letter was sent home to parents about renewing and fees for the upcoming year. Our annual dues will remain the same for the last 3 years. Ken will track scout / adult leadership renewal fees for chartering and Richard will send signature cards for bank accounts.

Finance Report - Richard reported a troop balance of $3766.18 before income and expenses submitted at the meeting.

Troop Newsletter. I will put together a troop newsletter for the COH on monday and to be mailed to parents who don't show up to COH.

Our next Meeting is scheduled for 12/13/07 - 2nd Thu of Dec.

Queen Mary Bike Hike & Family Picnic/BBQ return. Afternoon family activities of volleyball and soccer, or just relaxing and visiting.

Saturday, August 25

Meet at Mother's Beach

(Just North of BSA Aquatics Base, next to 2nd St Bridge)

1:00 to 4:00 PM - Bike ride to Queen Mary

4:00 to ~6:00 - Volleyball/Soccer Game

5:00 to ~7:00 PM - BBQ and Picnic

Bring your bike, snack, & canteen of water for bike hike

Bring your beach toys, chairs, kites for afternoon

Scouts and interested family members meet at Mother's beach parking lot at 1:00 for bike hike. We’ll ride to Queen Mary, explore the area, and

We’ll start BBQ’s around 5:00 and eat at approximately 6:00. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, condiments, and eating utensils (plates, utensils, napkins) will be furnished by the Troop.

All families asked to bring the following food assignment per the first letter of their last names:

B-G bring Desserts

H-R bring Salads

S-W bring Drinks

Parents and adult volunteers, we are inviting you to log in to the National Boy Scout Council e-Learning portal at https://scoutnet.scouting.org/elearning. Sign up, log in and take the on-line courses and print your certificates.

Outdoor Training

Most of your training can be done On-Line with minimal time committment. Training is important because it provides you with information on the troop organization, ways to protect our kids and helps us meet our requirements for scout outings. This is a simple way to get involved and improve the scouting program for our kids.
